XHTML 2.0 breaks compatibility to earlier versions of the markup,
meaning that yes, current browsers won't support it out of the box. I
believe this was a very conscious decision early in the design of XHTML
2.0, and that the W3C is aware of the consequences.

On the other hand, it has been shown that a browser with at least
support for XForms and XLink can be easily made to understand XHTML 2.0
by making it automatically apply an XSLT stylesheet that transforms the
XHTML 2.0 to XHTML 1.1 or even HTML 4.
