I disagree.  SVG has lost its way (it is being developed as a 
multimedia applications platform, not as a vector complement to
bitmapped images) and is not supported out of the box
by IE, which means that the only mechanisms available for general
web use are "ASCII" art and bitmapped images.  The latter don't have
scaleable and extractable text.
