I assume this was a continuation of an earlier conversation.

Why do we need both code and blockcode?  quote and blockquote?  span 
and div?  There were proposals for addr and blockaddr.

Is a paragraph large enough to contain a list, or vice versa?  (Depends on
the version.)  How about a quote?  a blockquote?

These suggest that block/inline is important, even when it has almost nothing
to do with semantics.

Whether it is *really* important, or *really* not linked to semantics -- I'm 
not sure was resolved.  But he is correct, that if there is going to be a
separation, then xhtml2 is probably a logical time.
