Perhaps... But I expect that the main reason that they are not used
much is bacuase the main web browser has not support for them... 

The link types that I try to add to pages are the ones available in
the Mozilla site navigation toolbar:

  View -> Show/Hide -> Site Navigation Bar -> Show Always
